In addition to Breast Cancer Awareness Month, it's also Diversity Awareness Month. I hope we can take a moment to show our appreciation to our present and historical figures who have made major strides in diversity; I'm personally thankful as I wouldn't be in the position I am today if it wasn't for them. There's a long way to go, but we have to take pride in how far we've come. This post can't cover every notable figure, but I wish to shine some light on some of history's greatest:

Martin Luther King is perhaps the best known civil rights leader, he organised the 1955 Montgomery Bus Boycott and many civil rights protests in the name of racial equality. His "I have a dream" speech and many like it paved the way for the American civil rights movement. He powered through so much adversity having been imprisoned over thirty times, and his voice still resonates with us today.

The aforementioned Bus Boycott was sparked by none other than Rosa Parks, a black woman who was arrested after refusing to give up her seat on a bus to a white man, which segregation laws at the time demanded of her. Parks was the face of the boycott until it was found by the US Supreme Court that segregated seating was unconstitutional, finally ending the boycott.

Long prior to the civil rights movement, in 1820 was a woman born on a plantation named Harriet Tubman. She attempted to prevent another enslaved person from being attacked, and suffered serious injury as a consequence at only age twelve. Eventually, Harriet escaped slavery and became part of the Underground Railroad, advocating for women's rights to vote, simultaneously working as a nurse and spy for the union in the Civil War. Her work has inspired millions.

British mathematician Alan Turing was known primarily for breaking the German Enigma code during World War II, which played a pivotal part in the Allied war effort against Nazi Germany. Through his Turing machine - an abstract mathematical model of computation, he influenced the design of modern computers we use today. Turing faced persecution for being openly homosexual despite it being criminalized in Britain at the time, and was chemically castrated. His legacy endures as one of the most brilliant and influential minds of history.

These people and many others like them paved the way for the society we live in today, it is paramount that we continue in their efforts, as there is a lot of work left to do, with no finish line in sight. Every person deserves to live in an equal society, eradicated of discrimination and injustice.

Primestone Developers have begun work on City Hall, rebuilding the City Council Chamber and other historical elements of the building. The building has needed refurbishment for a very long time so it's with great pride that we're able to make it more practical for everyone who works here while simultaneously supporting blue-collar workers in the construction sector.

Identifying if you have breast cancer is important, if you find any irregularities with your breasts/pecs you should consult a medical professional. That being said, reducing your risk of cancer is equally as important. Try to quit smoking, get physically active, eat more produce, limit your alcohol consumption, and if you're an able new mother, breastfeed!

Apart from the public and political actions that I am taking towards the improvement of our educational system, I am also taking personal steps to support the same mission. My family and I have donated a substantial amount to Davis Highschool, in order to help them with their future projects.
