In 1923, Chief Vollmer was known as an innovative reformist within the LSPD, and laid much of the groundwork for the Scientific Information Division (now the Forensic Science Division.) Vollmer believed that scientific analysis of evidence had a place in police work; so he ordered formation of the first crime lab in the United States. 100 years later, we still believe that science has a strong, meaningful spot in policing, and this lab is a showcase of our committment to that core belief.

The LSPD is pleased to share some new photographs from our Los Santos County regional crime lab, within the Police Administration Building, where we've done our best to honour Chief of Police Vollmer's legacy.

The criminalistics laboratory is accredited to ISO/IEC 17025 in testing and calibration by the ANSI National Accreditation Board (ANAB), an accredition we're proud to hold!

This lab is not only of importance to the LSPD, but state and federal agencies ranging from preservatory agencies, to the San Andreas Highway Patrol, to the members of the US Marshal's in our cooperation with Fugitive Recovery Teams. No other resource in our department is more deserving of the commendation for "critical multi-agency support!"

You can look forward to more information being shared on our various amenities & criminalist personnel in the near future, or kickstart your career in forensic science at
