Amongst multiple awareness days and weeks in the month of June, one of the observed months to raise awareness, is Infertility Awareness Month (or World Infertility Month). The goal is to increase awareness regarding numerous infertility issues faced by couples across the globe. This includes problems related to female as well as male fertility.

    🧐 𝗞𝗘𝗬 𝗙𝗔𝗖𝗧𝗦

    1. Infertility affects about 1 in 6 couples worldwide
    2. It is defined as the inability to conceive after 12 months of regular, unprotected intercourse
    3. Infertility can affect both men and women, and in many cases, the causes are unexplained or shared

    😟𝗜𝗦 𝗜𝗡𝗙𝗘𝗥𝗧𝗜𝗟𝗜𝗧𝗬 𝗣𝗘𝗥𝗠𝗔𝗡𝗘𝗡𝗧

Infertility in women can be both temporary and/or treatable, depending on the cause. Ranging from hormonal imbalances, stress, lifestyle factors, or medical conditions like Polycystic Overy Syndrome (PCOS) or Endometriosis can interfere with fertility, but many of these conditions can be managed with treatment, lifestyle changes, or fertility support. In some cases, infertility may be more complex or permanent, but options like IVF, egg freezing, or donor programs can offer hope.

    👨 𝗖𝗔𝗡 𝗠𝗘𝗡 𝗕𝗘 𝗜𝗡𝗙𝗘𝗥𝗧𝗜𝗟𝗘

The short answer is yes. However, male infertility can often be improved or treated, depending on the cause, just like in women. Factors like low sperm count, poor sperm motility, hormonal imbalances, or lifestyle issues (such as smoking, stress, or diet) can affect fertility.

🧬 𝗛𝗢𝗪 𝗗𝗢 𝗜 𝗙𝗜𝗡𝗗 𝗢𝗨𝗧 𝗜𝗙 𝗜 𝗔𝗠 𝗜𝗡𝗙𝗘𝗥𝗧𝗜𝗟𝗘

    👩 𝗪𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻
    1. Track your menstrual cycle
    2. Visit your gynecologist for exams (such as Well-Woman Exams)
    3. Consult a Reproductive Endocrinologist and Infertility Specialist (REI)
    4. Maintain a healthy lifestyle

    👨 𝗠𝗲𝗻
    1. Visit your urologist for preventive exams
    2. Consult a fertility specialist
    3. Request a semen analysis
    4. Maintain a healthy lifestyle

  • Once again, I am honored to be featured in Diversify! Some of you may remember my first interview with them, it was during the earlier months, when our clinic was still a start-up and so much was just beginning to take shape. That moment meant a lot to me, and being invited back now feels like a full-circle experience.

This updated interview dives deeper into the work we do at Cattaneo Women's Health, the growth we’ve experienced, and some of the lessons we've learned along the way. It also touches on a few more personal reflections, specifically on things I’ve carried with me through the highs and lows, even the challenges I've faced and still am battling.

A heartfelt thank you to Faith LaBelle for the thoughtful conversation and for creating space to tell our story again. I’m truly grateful.

  • 🤰🏿 𝗕𝗟𝗔𝗖𝗞 𝗠𝗔𝗧𝗘𝗥𝗡𝗔𝗟 𝗛𝗘𝗔𝗟𝗧𝗛 𝗪𝗘𝗘𝗞

Each year in the U.S., hundreds die from pregnancy-related causes and thousands face serious complications. Over 80% of these deaths are preventable. Early warning signs, timely care, and respectful treatment can save lives.

Black women are three times more likely to die from pregnancy related causes than White women. This disparity is driven by unequal healthcare quality, chronic conditions, and social factors that limit access to care.

💪 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗼𝗴𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗼 𝗥𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗲 𝗕𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆

During Black Maternal Health Week, learn how you can support pregnant women in your life to reduce factors that contribute to pregnancy-related complications and death.

    • Speak up if something feels off.
    • Know urgent maternal warning signs (e.g., severe headache, trouble breathing, heavy bleeding) and get care fast.
    • Share pregnancy history at all medical visits for up to a year postpartum.
    • Stay connected to healthcare and support systems throughout pregnancy and after.

    👩‍⚕️ 𝗛𝗘𝗔𝗟𝗧𝗛𝗖𝗔𝗥𝗘 𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗩𝗜𝗗𝗘𝗥𝗦 𝗖𝗔𝗡

    • Ask questions to understand patients and their lives.
    • Educate patients and their support systems on urgent maternal warning signs.
    • Help manage chronic or pregnancy-related conditions like hypertension, diabetes, or depression.
    • Listen and respond to patient concerns.
    • Deliver respectful, high-quality care to all.

🏥 𝗛𝗢𝗦𝗣𝗜𝗧𝗔𝗟𝗦 𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗛𝗘𝗔𝗟𝗧𝗛𝗖𝗔𝗥𝗘 𝗦𝗬𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗠𝗦 𝗖𝗔𝗡

    • Standardize emergency response and care coordination.
    • Enhance quality prenatal and postpartum care.

  • What a wonderful night! I’m so grateful for the opportunity to speak about women’s health and the challenges we continue to face. Women are often pushed back... but we rise, we fight, and we claim our place.

Thank you to everyone at The Hillside Society, who made this moment possible!
