And to round off our training recap is today's Advanced Swat School session: Aerial Platform Training. SWAT Officers (D Platoon) teamed up with pilots from the Air Support Division's Special Flight Section to practice a variety of aerial manoeuvres and missions, ranging from high risk aerial insertions onto buildings, rough terrain or the ground both via rappelling and "hot jumping" while hovering above the ground. Operators also gained familiarity and experience shooting from an aerial platform, with both select fire and marsksman rifles. 09/MAY/22, 21:50 hours. An active shooter in the Little Seoul area turned into an armed barricaded when a male subject killed three persons and fled into an unoccupied apartment on the third floor of a complex. Special Weapons and Tactics (D Platoon) were called to the scene, tracked the subject to the target apartment, contained it, and then began negotiations. D Platoon were supported by LSFD TEMS Paramedics during the scene. Today members of D Platoon (SWAT) undertook crowd control training, learning how to form and act in a riot-type situation, how to manage and disperse a crowd, and how to handle hostile subjects and perform targeted arrests. 02/MAY, 2022, 23:10, Mission Row Police Station - D Platoon (SWAT) were called to an armed hostage situation in the lobby of the Mission Row Community Police Station. Upon arrival it was determined that an unstable female individual had taken a citizen hostage with a handgun, and was threatening harm. Negotiations began in conjunction with on-scene Detectives familiar with the subject. Another training day. This evening a number of D Platoon (SWAT) operators attended their advanced SWAT school course on marksman rifle deployment, learning to shoot with precision rifles, work in sniper-spotter teams, identify targets, and communicate effectively with non-sniper teams. April 8, 2022 - Early in the Morning an unstable male subject armed with a handgun evaded officers in a postal truck before eventually stopping at the Davis LTD gas station. Here, the subject entered and took the clerk hostage at gunpoint. A hostage situation response was initiated by LSPD and members of the LSPD SWAT team as well as K9 platoon began containment and negotiations. The subject was extremely unhinged and fired numerous bullets through the store window at police from a position of cover while negotiations continued. Eventually, a SWAT marksman neutralised the subject when they attempted to shoot at officers outside the building after emerging from cover.
