Too many lives lost. Too many warning signs ignored. The fact that over 80% of maternal deaths are preventable should outrage all of us in healthcare — especially when Black women are three times more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes.
This isn’t just a medical problem — it’s a justice issue.
During Black Maternal Health Week, I encourage everyone to listen, learn, and advocate. Whether you're a patient, a loved one, or a provider: your voice matters, and your care should always be heard.

Each year in the U.S., hundreds die from pregnancy-related causes and thousands face serious complications. Over 80% of these deaths are preventable. Early warning signs, timely care, and respectful treatment can save lives.
Black women are three times more likely to die from pregnancy related causes than White women. This disparity is driven by unequal healthcare quality, chronic conditions, and social factors that limit access to care.
