• Your actions today can help shape a fire-ready future.

âž¡ It begins with Zone 0, or the first five feet from your home. Removing anything flammable, like plants, mulch, and firewood, is critical to reducing the chance of embers igniting your home.
âž¡ Move outward into Zone 1 (5–30 feet), where the focus shifts to maintaining healthy, well-spaced vegetation, trimming trees, and removing dead plants and debris.
âž¡ Extend your efforts into Zone 2 (30–100 feet or the property line), where thinning vegetation and managing larger landscaping features help slow the spread of fire.

You have the power to make your home, and your community, safer. Don't wait for a fire to start before you begin preparing.

  • Wildfire Preparedness Week focuses on establishing a community that is safe from wildfire. 🔥

This years theme is "Building a Fire-Ready Future – Strengthening Our Defenses, Together." Wildfire safety starts with you - but it takes all of us to protect our communities. From home hardening to defensible space, every step you take helps reduce risk. When we work together to become wildfire adaptive, we can all be neighborhood heroes.

As we begin the week, SAN FIRE reminds you the following these safety tips to keep your home safe from wildfire:

🔥 Harden Your Home - Use ignition-resistant building materials, create defensive space around your home, and ensure to cut down dry, overgrown vegetation.

🔥 Develop a Wildfire Action Plan - What will you do and where will you meet in the event of a wildfire in your area? Don’t forget to include your pets!

🔥 Pack A Go-Bag - Pack a bag with all your essential items and be ready to evacuate. This includes important documents and medications!

For more information on how you can prepare yourself for wildfire, read our newest press release on Wildfire Preparedness Week and for even more information and tips, visit www.NFPA.org

  • During a wildfire, embers can travel and accumulate at the base of a home, ultimately igniting trees, shrubs, and combustible objects leading to your home. When you create a buffer by removing combustible materials from within 5 feet from your home, you reduce the chances of fire spreading to its next fuel source.

  • It's important to remember that wildfires can occur throughout the year, even when the calendar year says it's fall. Stay vigilant and make sure your home is well-prepared to withstand a wildfire. One way to enhance your home's wildfire readiness is by establishing a defensible space around your property.

Don't let your guard down, wildfires won't wait for you to be ready.

In an emergency, like a wildfire, you may be asked to quickly evacuate the area. Do you know the difference between a warning and an order?
