RACE REPORT 10/12/2023 🏁
Another Sunday of racing for the Crowex family as
Eric Martini and
Francis Winters harness up for two races that would push the pair to their limits so far this season. Time to close your eyes and imagine, imagine the underground raceway that is Cannonball on a Sunday afternoon. Round FOUR of the Cannonball Stock Car Championship Season Two!
QUALIFYING - Martini comes out with a very respectable P3, whilst his young teammate scores POLE POSITION. The top 3 separated by a TENTH of a second, it is almost impossible to guess who would place where. Cars are flying around the track, setting fast laps upon qualifying. The second race grid positions ride solely on what can be done in this first race!
RACE ONE - Dramatic, a race that will see red flags on course as well as a fire engine and ambulance driving on the track. The red lights go out and Francis makes a giant leap forwards in terms of creating a gap to the rest of the pack, he has clean air. Martini battles for P2 in the first few corners, gaining the position and sitting right behind his teammate. Last race we saw the Crowex boys struggle, is it finally time to get back some of those points WeMotorsport stole? Avis pulls from P4 into P3, she's right on the tail of Martini, Martini pushing Winters. The top three forcing Crowex into making a decision about team orders - will Winters let his veteran teammate past, is the Crew Chief going to let them fight it out on track? Six minutes into twenty, Eric struggling to cat Francis as Avis and Quinten fight for P3, giving Eric a gap - Francis receives a verbal warning for exceeding track limits, Eric advances on him at this, closing the gap. Did Francis get nervous? Team orders are heard over the radio frequency, "Please let Eric past, let's not lose too much time fighting". Francis lets his team mate through and Avis is right on their tail. Martini then pulling away in P1, there is no debate that the clean air makes a race - Winters is fighting for his P2, embarking into full defense mode. The track is RED FLAGGED, crash at turn 12! Safety car out, cars to pits for restart. After almost 40 minutes, one fire engine and one ambulance, the race restarts with 8 minutes on the clock. Another full course yellow, just THIRTY SECONDS into the restart, the end of the safety car seeing Francis lose his P2, has he got enough time to fight back for it?! ANOTHER RED FLAG. Car straight into a barrier, the team losing hope of that 1, 2 on the podium as frustrations rise. The final restart for the first race sees Martini trying to slow Miller down in P2 to allow his team to execute an overtake, but on the second to last lap, disaster! Winters is P1, Martini P3?! Later we find out how Miller had crashed into Martini on a turn in a misjudgment driving error, causing the pair to spin out and ultimately cost their race. Winters takes the P1 for the team! Scoring some serious points!
RACE TWO - After such a dramatic end to race one, we see race to start with Winters in P2 and Eric P3. Red lights are out and Winters launches perfectly into first, taking a much needed gap to the field as Martini and Miller fight for that P2 all over again. Winters, Miller, Martini. A sudden yellow flag brings the pack together at 40mph, the restart shows the pack creating gaps and throwing the cars into corners, desperate for those points. Miller hits the wall, the car continues but at what cost? The boys battle out ferociously as they lap the track time and time again. The chequred flag leaves the team with Winters in P1 and Martini P4 - An INCREDIBLE drive from our young driver in that #3 car that has just been awarded "Rookie of the year" for his season just gone in another series. More to come on that, though! Congrats Francis Winters - outstanding drive and some valuable points for both him and the team as they fight for the constructors championship once more!
