Amongst multiple awareness days and weeks in the month of June, one of the observed months to raise awareness, is Infertility Awareness Month (or World Infertility Month). The goal is to increase awareness regarding numerous infertility issues faced by couples across the globe. This includes problems related to female as well as male fertility.
π§ πππ¬ ππππ§π¦
1. Infertility affects about 1 in 6 couples worldwide
2. It is defined as the inability to conceive after 12 months of regular, unprotected intercourse
3. Infertility can affect both men and women, and in many cases, the causes are unexplained or shared
πππ¦ ππ‘πππ₯π§ππππ§π¬ π£ππ₯π ππ‘ππ‘π§
Infertility in women can be both temporary and/or treatable, depending on the cause. Ranging from hormonal imbalances, stress, lifestyle factors, or medical conditions like Polycystic Overy Syndrome (PCOS) or Endometriosis can interfere with fertility, but many of these conditions can be managed with treatment, lifestyle changes, or fertility support. In some cases, infertility may be more complex or permanent, but options like IVF, egg freezing, or donor programs can offer hope.
π¨ πππ‘ π ππ‘ ππ ππ‘πππ₯π§πππ
The short answer is yes. However, male infertility can often be improved or treated, depending on the cause, just like in women. Factors like low sperm count, poor sperm motility, hormonal imbalances, or lifestyle issues (such as smoking, stress, or diet) can affect fertility.
