This is the Vapid TARV (commonly referred to as an "ARV"), the Department's SWAT team (D Platoon) currently operates three. "ARVs" are typically referred to by law enforcement agencies as being "armored rescue vehicles" with their primary use being to transport tactical officers to and from hostile situations and to assist with the recovery and protection of civilians in harm's way during terrorist threats, hostage incidents, or encounters with large gatherings of aggressors. The ARV is designed to provide protection from a variety of small arms, explosives and IED threats. April 13th, 2024 - Members of LSPD SWAT, D platoon, conduct warrant service on a subject. SWAT surrounded, contained the vehicle the high risk suspect was inside and proceeded to peacefully call out and detain all occupants, despite firearms being present in the vehicle with Members of LSFD TEMS (Tactical Emergency Medical Services) rendering aid to one of the occupants for a minor self-committed injury. #LifesavingTactcs #Dteam #TEMS #LSPD #L:SFD #SavingLivesSaturday #Metro #114

January 13th, 2024. LSPD Special Weapons and Tactics (D-Team) with support from Metro K-9 Platoon responded to an officer needs help call in which a subject had opened fire on officers. The suspect was pursued to the Diamond Casino and Resort where they barricaded in a suite. Thanks to the swift tracking skills of K-9 and the timely assistance of Resort staff the subject was located and a barricaded subject scene developed. Unfortunately, despite the efforts of negotiators and other tactical personnel the subject failed to surrender, eventually fleeing the suite and opening fire on officers before being taken down. January 11th, 2024. LSPD Special Weapons and Tactics (D-TEAM) executed a high risk arrest warrant for Detectives with the assistance of K-9 Platoon and LSFD Tactical Emergency Medical Services Medics. The HRAW and accomplices evaded police units before stop sticks were deployed, bringing their evasion to a close. SWAT assets then moved to block the vehicle. A K-9 was deployed on scene when a felon attempted to flee and a successful takedown occurred. All three were arrested after evading police officers. 14 July, 2022 - LSPD SWAT respond to a call for Mutual Aid from San Andreas Park Rangers who reported an armed hostage situation inside a room at the Motor Motel on Route 68. SWAT operators, with support from LSPD K9, arrived and began negotiations. Following a tense standoff, SWAT made entry to effect a rescue of the hostage after it was established that they were bleeding out from a prior wound and would likely not survive a prolonged siege. Operators engaged the hostage taker, neutralising them and successfully rescued the hostage, at which point LSPD Tactical Medics and LSFD personnel engaged in medical intervention before transporting them to hospital. 4th July, 2022 - Officers respond to a call for service in the Vespucci Canals area of a woman unresponsive in her home. Officers made contact and established that the occupant was being held at gunpoint by two individuals. A hostage situation begun, prompting a SWAT response, along with officers from the Metro K-9 Platoon. SWAT Crisis Negotiation Team personnel begun negotiations with the subjects, eventually prompting them to surrender peacefully. They were taken into custody without injury and two handguns were recovered. 09/MAY/22, 21:50 hours. An active shooter in the Little Seoul area turned into an armed barricaded when a male subject killed three persons and fled into an unoccupied apartment on the third floor of a complex. Special Weapons and Tactics (D Platoon) were called to the scene, tracked the subject to the target apartment, contained it, and then began negotiations. D Platoon were supported by LSFD TEMS Paramedics during the scene. Today members of D Platoon (SWAT) undertook crowd control training, learning how to form and act in a riot-type situation, how to manage and disperse a crowd, and how to handle hostile subjects and perform targeted arrests.
