  • Nine months ago 5 selectees began the LSPD SWAT selection course. The nine month process entails a 12 week SWAT school and 6 month operational performance evaluation.
During the 12 week tactical course, selectees must demonstrate and perform a variety of technical and tactical skills under extreme evaluation. Selectees are introduced and tested in numerous disciplines. The disciplines range from firearms proficiency, tactical movement, crisis negotiations, and other additional LE specialized skill sets.

Upon graduating the qualification course, selectees continue with a six month operational evaluation. At the successful completion of the nine month process, these Officers have earned the title of LSPD SWAT Officer.

  • This is the Vapid TARV (commonly referred to as an "ARV"), the Department's SWAT team (D Platoon) currently operates three. "ARVs" are typically referred to by law enforcement agencies as being "armored rescue vehicles" with their primary use being to transport tactical officers to and from hostile situations and to assist with the recovery and protection of civilians in harm's way during terrorist threats, hostage incidents, or encounters with large gatherings of aggressors. The ARV is designed to provide protection from a variety of small arms, explosives and IED threats.

Today we had the pleasure of getting one of our ARVs serviced by our partners down at the Department of Public Works who work diligently to keep our vehicle fleet running at all times.

  • I never thought this day would come, especially so soon but today was my last ever shift as Lifeguard Section Chief with the Fire Department. Ten years of serving the community as a Lifeguard and Volunteer firefighter before making my way to Lifeguard Chief. From there I joined tactical medics and went on over 100 deployments alongside SWAT and SEB. I can't even count how many Ocean search and rescues, or water rescues I've been apart of over the years. I'm grateful for my Lifeguard family for an awful lot of things, for welcoming me in all those years ago and making me the person I am today. Now it's time to hand the mantle to someone else. My goal is to continue helping others and supporting businesses in a different role. A new adventure awaits.
