Democratic Senator (and Minority Leader) Diana Jones, upon hearing the news of the underfunding situation in Davis High, immediately drafted and submitted Bill no. 149 - "Emergency Department of Education Q1 Appropriations Act of 2024" During her presentation of the bill, the following information is provided: - Based on the previous Quarter's Budget (October to December 2023), Davis High School is a state funded public school, therefore it is not the City's responsibility to fund, but the State's. - In the last Quarter's Budget a number of errors existed. One of them is that the requested sum for Davis High School's Funding was set to "0 dollars". - While the reasons behind this omission are being investigated, it is of utmost importance to make sure the teachers and Faculty of Davis High are paid what they are due. If there are no opposing voices within 24 hours, the bill will be passed unanimously. A unanimous passing of the bill means that the necessary funds can be dispersed within 48 hours from the time of this writing, thus giving us time to investigate the reasons behind this grave omission. It has come to our attention that one or more individuals with ill intent and nefarious goals have circulated disturbing footage of Pacific Bluffs. This distribution follows an extortion attempt to the Democratic Party that the party did not respond to. With concern for the ongoing investigation into the case, we urge everyone patience. We will not be releasing any information related to the victim or potential crime in question. We have been and will continue to be cooperating with the police department. The Democratic Party will make the following clarifications: The Democratic Party never held any meetings or rallies in the Pacific Bluffs Resort on the date of the incident. If such was the case, it would have been advertised The Democratic Party never employed and does not employ a private security detail for its members. And even if we did, their presence would be public and advertised, and not hidden in civilian clothing The Democratic Party does not answer to extortion. Trying to profit from the death of a human being is reprehensible and illegal, and we will not stand for it. The original extortion material had been made available to representatives of the Press beyond just the authorities. The Democratic Party expresses their condolences to the family of the departed. Our hearts go out to them in this difficult time.
