  • Anyone who knows Chloe, and I had the pleasure of having her as our Judicial Assistant when I was just a Supervising Judge, a long while ago, knows how much of a gem she is, how devoted she is to people and how caring she is of those around her. When the City failed Marisol, a kid whose adoption I signed off, I made it my personal duty to stick by her and to care about her, until Chloe met her. Only then, she took it personal and worked to give Marisol a loving place she can call home. Congratulations, Chloe, on that just achievement.

Being welcomed as Chief of Staff of our City's Government was a milestone in my life. But what truly made it unforgettable was having Marisol standing beside me.

Pride doesn't even begin to cover what I felt today. Not just for the role I've stepped into, but for the bright, sharp and deeply kind young woman I hope to soon call family. Watching her speak with confidence and carry herself among leaders with such grace, that is the future I believe in.

To Mayor Preston, thank you for your warmth, respect, and genuine welcome.
To Marisol: Thank you for being my reason.

Here is to building a City worthy of the next generation! ❤️

  • I am excited to announce the creation of our Commission on Access to Justice & Public Outreach, along with the renewal of our Commission on Judicial Performance. Whereas the latter aims at ensuring that our Courts work efficiently and judicial misconduct is thoroughly studied, our Commission on Access to Justice & Public Outreach will serve as a connection between our Courts and the community. Some of the first programs I'd like to see implemented are tighter links with ULSA and educational institutions to bring our youth closer to our Courts, to learn and experience part of it, along with a "Coffee with a Judge" program. These are ground-breaking programs that have never seen the light in our Judiciary and its history, and only under my leadership and our fresh commission will they create enough impact to improve our community and access to justice.

  • We condemn the criminal acts that have taken place today in Mission Row, with a van-bomb exploding outside of the Republican HQ. This is unthinkable in democracy, and unseen in our local history. Our condolences go to the families of those civilians and peace officers that have lost their lives. For safety reasons, the Greg E. Joplin Courthouse will remain closed and duty judges will work remotely for the remainder of the night, and will resume its common duties tomorrow at 8 AM.

  • I write this post with strong sentiment, grief and anger. Today, while being escorted to my residence and hours after the protest, me and my security team have been ambushed right in front of my residence. All we could hear is gunshots, of diverse origin and loudness. I am safe, but one of my four bodyguards has passed away today. Oliver's nanny, our beloved María, has suffered a panic crisis and a heart attack and she is at the hospital. Oliver and I are safe, and the shooters have been captured by the Sheriff's Department, who have worked efficiently and swiftly, as they always do. This is a direct attack against what I represent: an attack against our democracy and the rule of law. My condolences go to the family of my security guard, who have lost an invaluable colleague, son, brother and grandson. I must thank, greatly, Arcani group for saving my life tonight. I am deeply moved.

  • Everyone should be permitted to exercise their constitutionally-protected rights, and especially those given by our Founding Fathers in the First Amendment or our Bill of Rights and our Constitution. This should be the case, as long as the exercise is peaceful and mindful of social and legal responsibilities.
