  • Not to be overshadowed by an eclipse, but on April 9th, 2024 at 1950 hours, K9-16 Ortega and K9-23 Maldonado along with K9-30 Wojcik responded to a call for service in the Mirror Park district in reference to an attempted armed robbery.

Upon their arrival, K9-16 Ortega and K9-23 Maldonado were advised by the reporting parties that the offender was observed carrying a rifle and that he fled on foot after abandoning his vehicle on East Mirror Drive. K9-30 Wojcik, K9-16 Ortega and K9-23 Maldonado formulated a search plan to locate the offender. K9-16 Ortega informed on-scene personnel that he was familiar with the suspected offender and directed units to begin a canine track from a location known to be used by the offender.

K9-30 Wojcik, K9-16 Ortega and K9-23 Maldonado successfully tracked the offender up the Tataviam Mountains through a variety of rough terrain, altitudes and unknown obstacles with the assistance of K9-23 Maldonado's canine partner, K9 Arlo.

Following the capture of the offender, K9-30 Wojcik, K9-16 Ortega and K9-23 Maldonado continued to demonstrate amazing work by properly concluding their investigation into the call for service.

On behalf of the Metropolitan Division Canine Platoon, we thank you for your excellent service in protecting the entire community.

  • January 13th, 2024. LSPD Special Weapons and Tactics (D-Team) with support from Metro K-9 Platoon responded to an officer needs help call in which a subject had opened fire on officers. The suspect was pursued to the Diamond Casino and Resort where they barricaded in a suite. Thanks to the swift tracking skills of K-9 and the timely assistance of Resort staff the subject was located and a barricaded subject scene developed. Unfortunately, despite the efforts of negotiators and other tactical personnel the subject failed to surrender, eventually fleeing the suite and opening fire on officers before being taken down. No officers were injured and the suspect was pronounced deceased by Tactical Emergency Medical Personnel from the Fire Department on scene.

  • January 11th, 2024. LSPD Special Weapons and Tactics (D-TEAM) executed a high risk arrest warrant for Detectives with the assistance of K-9 Platoon and LSFD Tactical Emergency Medical Services Medics. The HRAW and accomplices evaded police units before stop sticks were deployed, bringing their evasion to a close. SWAT assets then moved to block the vehicle. A K-9 was deployed on scene when a felon attempted to flee and a successful takedown occurred. All three were arrested after evading police officers. No people were injured during this incident.

  • We are deeply saddened to announce the death of one of our own, Police Officer III+1 Jacob Whitmore, better known as K9-2 or Whitty. Jacob was selfishly shot and killed yesterday evening on August 9, 2023 whilst serving the community.

Jacob dedicated his life to protecting and serving others. He began his career with the Los Santos Police Department in 1999 at age 23. After graduating in the top 5 of his academy class and as Class Leader, Jacob spent his first year on the job in Vinewood Area as a Probationary Officer. After successfully completed probation in 2001, Jacob would transfer to Central Area as a Patrol Officer. Later in 2007, Jacob would promote to Police Officer III, serving as a Field Training Officer and mentor to new Officers. Later that year, Jacob would depart from Central Area and move to Mission Row Area where he served as a Community Relations Office. After four years of building trust with the local community, Jacob moved onto a place that was his second home - Metropolitan Division. Jacob spent his first three years in B Platoon, serving as a Tactical Support Officer. Jacob would then see himself into the K-9 Platoon in late 2014. A year later, the most senior Handler (now K9-30) K9-4 Navarro would pin Jacob after receiving full field certification with his first dog, K-9 Benjen. After 9 years as a K-9 Officer, Whitmore would celebrate his promotion to Police Officer III+1 as a K-9 Supervisor. Jacob was the sort of person who you could go to for help. He would drop whatever he was doing in a heartbeat to help others, even if it were of inconvenience to him. Jacob was a true testament of what a K-9 Handler is. Words cannot begin to describe the heartache we are all feeling after this sudden and unexpected loss.

Jacob was a proud brother, father, uncle, police officer, colleague, avid fisher, chess player and friend. Please allow the Whitmore family the space they need during this unbearably difficult period. Funeral arrangements will be announced as soon as the Whitmore family are ready.

Jacob, we miss you brother. Rest in peace, and may God welcome you home. See you up there soon.
